The interdisciplinary field of materials science, also commonly known as materials science and engineering, involves the discovery and design of new materials, with an emphasis on solids. The intellectual origins of materials science stem from the Enlightenment, when researchers began to use analytical thinking from chemistry, physics, and engineering to understand ancient, phenomenological observations in metallurgy and mineralogy.

Many of the most pressing scientific problems humans currently face are due to the limitations of the materials that are available and, as a result, breakthroughs in materials science are likely to have a significant impact.

Mission

To ensure that self-sustaining scientists, technologists, professionals and entrepreneurs become prosperous through innovative, adaptive scientific, technological, entrepreneurial and agro-based initiatives.

Objectives

Pursuant to the above goal, LOG`EL Projects specific objectives are to:

Enable the innovative scientists and technologists to improve livelihoods at the personal, household, community, national and international levels.

Engender the gender aspect in the national science and technology agenda.
Enable all those skilled in science and technology to become and remain, more competitive and acceptable in the job market.

Establish and nurture an environment that provides for full exploitation of the old and modern research traditions, to add value to human potential in an adaptation-driven, science and technology sector.

Promote entrepreneurship through the integration of science, technology and agro-based and climate-adaptive initiatives and attitudes, in all sectors of the economy.

Transform research, development and innovation ideas into products, services and processes to enhance livelihoods in a dynamic and adaptive manner.
Nurturing talents of the next generation of researchers.
